Paint hurdles across the canvas as Michele Krauss flicks long, thin lines over various backdrops. The brushstrokes, uneven and frenzied, inject movement into the works. In some, a collision of colors circle and loop over background characters. Krauss layers these quick lines into a textured expression of passion. In others, the swirl of lines themselves form the central image. Many of her paintings, however, are abstract representations of landscapes. These paintings feature blocks of blue that could be interpreted variously as ocean and sky.
On top of the horizon line is always another line that refers to hope, as well as the tangibility of emotions and ideas. Although the colors are bright, they are soft and inviting. The colors meld together until they exude an atmospheric glow. Each painting creates a visual euphoria. Perhaps Michele Krauss’ paintings are so full of movement because the artist herself has spent her lif e moving from Chile to various cities in the United States and Europe. Today, her paintings are held in private collections worldwide.
