Andrea Hickman paints the typography of emotion in her deeply personal abstracted landscapes. Drawing on personal experiences, Hickman puts forth sublime, awe-inspiring images of nature that speak directly to the human spirit. Her universal themes display every aspect of the heart’s depth, from joy to extreme sorrow and are expressed through a strong use of evocative color and textural application of paint to the canvas. In her own process of artistic self-reflection, Hickman discovered the calming power of the horizon, where the land meets the sky. By concentrating on this line, which effectively connects man to earth, Hickman resolves the emotions she stirs up in her works, creating a point of Zen-like meditation for the viewer.
Inspired by her travels throughout the world, particularly in Southeast Asia, Andrea Hickman began her visual explorations as a fashion designer. The artist lives and works in Greenwich, Connecticut and is continuing to pursue landscape painting as a means to illustrate the importance of living in the present.
