Photographer and mixed media artist Jo Bac buoyantly captures the nuances of daily life. A surprising combination of Mondrian’s geometric formalism and John Baldessari’s pop culture fluency, Bac’s prints merge repetitious shapes and bright colors with familiar cultural imagery. Her prints are systematically organized, often with rows of repeated rectangular images. Yet orderliness has rarely seemed so vibrant and exciting. Reds, blues, yellows, and pinks intensify her prints, and the vivid reverberation of images creates a kaleidoscope effect. Because of the way she structures her compositions, Bac makes food, clothing, or household items seem at once lively and sophisticated.

Born in Poland, Bac finds that the soulful, emotive character of her cultural heritage contributes to her work’s vibrancy. Bac has a background in theatre and political science as well as art and she currently lives and works in London.
